There's No Place Like Home

That seemed to be the theme this summer. My sister and I didn't step one toe out of the country this year. Very unusual for us. We decided to hang out here in Maine and had a week of nonstop hilarity and fun right here in the good ol' USA.

We spent one very hot and very humid afternoon wandering some of the older than dirt cemetaries that seem to abound in the Northeast. This pic in particular I really love and have framed already. She's lovely, isn't she?

I'm really feeling the travel itch bad these days though. I've been threatened with death if I take a long weekend jaunt across the pond by sis. She can't get the time and I'm going to try like hell to wait til she does. In the meantime we're in the beginning stages of planning our next adventure. I know it'll be just as fun as it always is.

And I've got Pumpkinpalooza party plans up the wahoo anyway. Now THAT's one fun weekend and it's approaching fast!

A Three Piece Dinner

The girls are way beyond the McNugget size now. We like to think they're more like a three piece dinner and then some.
I'm expecting an egg any minute now. In the meantime they do tricks for grapes and blackberries. The sheriff is in on the fun, here he is with Betty who jumps the highest of the girls.

They come when called, peck my toes because red nail polish looks like fruit I presume, and in general are a whole lotta fun.

Spring Has Sprung

It's here, it's here! Unfortunately so are the black flies. The little bastards regard me as some kind of buffet and I get huge welts. So, I'm stuck inside for a few weeks. Which is excruciating in this lovely weather. Thankfully I got all my flower beds cleaned up early and the lavender crop is going to be SPECTACULAR this year. The hops, too!

In the meantime it's all about the McNuggets. Growing, growing, growing. I braved the bugs and took them outside for a bit today. They follow me around like the Pied Piper and if I get TOO far away, they fly up to me and scold me for leaving them.

Miss Gracie is pretty enchanted with them. She's the "mom dog" here and a gentle giant.

When she stood up, they gathered underneath her in the shadow like a big German Shepherd umbrella. And pecked her toes ;) She doesn't mind and was herding them all over the lawn.

Hope spring has sprung in your part of the world!

McNuggets and yes, I Suck at Blogging Lately

I really didn't fall off the face of the earth, I'm just really busy. House stuff, dirt stuff, chicken stuff.
The sheriff calls the babies McNuggets which makes me laugh, but I'm also really glad we're only raising them for eggs and to add to the zoo we have around here.
We lost one :( not unusual, but still heartbreaking. So, the three girls are Marge (large and in charge), Pauline and Betty.

They're one week and one day old and grow every day. Sporting wing feathers now, they're trying to hop on the perch and succeed once out of about 25 times. This involves a running start, wing flappage and alot of peeping.

Here's Marge

And here they are the day they arrived

Coming Soon

And it can't come fast enough. We got two feet of snow yesterday! The drifts are about 10 feet tall, ugh.
This pic makes me smile. This particular bed is so mature now. Oh, Charlie Chaplin is sitting there waiting for some frogs to come out. I have a little shady spot under a stone bench I keep dark and cool for them.
